WriteGirl is a nonprofit organization for high school girls centered on the craft of creative writing and empowerment through self-expression. Through one-on-one mentoring and monthly workshops, girls are given techniques, insights and hot tips for great writing in all genres from professional women writers.

Our Season End Celebration

More than 400 guests gathered at the Writers Guild of America Theater in Beverly Hills to celebrate the end of Write Girl’s eighth season and preview the new anthology, Silhouette: Bold Lines and Voices from WriteGirl. Girls read their original work and were thrilled to have guests Sprague Graden (“24”), Pamela Guest and Peter Facinelli (“Twilight”) also bring their words to life onstage. Silhouette celebrates the voices of teens from more than 60 different Los Angeles high schools, and women writers from top newspapers, publishers and entertainment companies. Writing advice and an entire chapter of writing experiments will help you develop and share your own bold voice.

PlayWriteGirl Gets Rave Reviews!

The benefit event on May 3rd at the Pasadena Playhouse was a hit! Our girls wrote pieces during the workshop; celebrated actors brought them to life onstage! Our girls above opened the show. Bold Ink Awards at Fox Studios was blockbuster!

More than 350 guests gathered at 20th Century Fox Studios for WriteGirl's third annual Bold Ink Awards that celebrated eight fearless women writers. The honorees, pictured left to right, are: Best-selling novelist & screenwriter, Gigi Levangie Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Sonia Nazario Academy Award nominated screenwriter Naomi Foner; Grammy-winning songwriter, Diane Warren WriteGirl Executive Director, Keren Taylor; screenwriter/director Gina Prince Bythewood (The acclaimed poet, Wanda Coleman Emmy nominated television writer, Jennifer Crittenden (Not pictured: Bold Ink honoree, novelist, Carolyn See).

Our Girls Go to College

WriteGirl is happy to announce that 21 of our girls started college in the fall of 2008. We are proud to continue our success rate of sending 100% of our seniors to college!

Public Readings Last year 16 WriteGirl teens went off to college, many as the first in their families to do so. 100% of our graduating girls enroll in college after participation in WriteGirl. We’re very proud.
