WriteGirl's 2003 SEASON END GALA EVENT

On June 22, 2003, WriteGirl celebrated the end of our second season, and the release of our second anthology, Bold Ink. More than 450 people attended the gala at the Writers Guild Theater, and our girls were just fantastic. They were hilarious, moving, profound, provocative, defiant, shy, loud and just brilliant. Many of them were speaking in public for the first time and bravely took to the microphone and performed their work. It was a clear demonstration of the creative wealth in WriteGirl.

Our special guests (Rosanna DeSoto, Josefina Lopez, Karen and Jill Sprecher Judy Muller, Carol Flint, Julie Warner, Connie Britton and Robbi Chong) were terrific voices in between, offering some of their own well-crafted words, and giving some dramatic and sometimes hilarious readings of the girls’ works. The always impressive Wanda Coleman really brought a few girls’ pieces into a new light.

We screened a segment from an upcoming documentary film on WriteGirl, with several WriteGirls learning film production and editing techniques under the guidance of Bresee staff member and documentarian Jerold Kress.

WriteGirl awarded the first annual “Friend of WriteGirl Award” to the Bresee Youth Center for their tremendous support of WriteGirl over the past 18 months.
