This year marks 15 years of transforming the lives of thousands of teen girls in Los Angeles. Executive Director Keren Taylor founded WriteGirl in 2001 with the goal of leveraging the skills of women writers to inspire and guide the teen girls in Los Angeles to tell their stories and discover their creative voices. WriteGirl began with just 30 teen girls and 30 women writers, and today, WriteGirl is a thriving community with 150 volunteer women writers serving more than 500 girls annually. We've helped nearly 1,000 girls get to college, and they're now studying and working all around the world!
Thank you for Joining us as we celebrate this milestone year!

WriteGirl 15th Anniversary Celebration!
Saturday, June 25
2 PM to 4:30 PM
Writers Guild Theater
Beverly Hills, CA
Thank you to all who joined us to celebrate 15 years of helping girls write their way to bright futures!
To kick off WriteGirl's 15th anniversary (AKA our quinceañera), Exec. Director, Keren Taylor surprised the mentees and their guests (including the WriteGirl staff) with a GRAMMY-award winning, all-female Mariachi band! The room erupted as the sound of the trumpet blasted through the theatre, the audience got on their feet and everyone was dancing! Keren and co-host/longtime friend, Clare Sera, danced to the stage wearing their party outfits and tiaras.
Our first guest speaker, California State Senator Holly J. Mitchell shared a moving piece she wrote to herself, specifically for the WriteGirl event, titled Dear My 15 year old Self. It was filled with heart-warming anecdotes and valuable advice for our girls.
LA City Councilmember, Marqueece Harris-Dawson took to the stage next to express the power of telling your story, and told our WriteGirl mentees to never stop writing!
Special guest Rosie Rivera read the poem of a WriteGirl mentee and encouraged our girls to speak up and let their voices be heard
Special guest performers Felicia Day, Kelsey Scott, Sherri Saum and Pamela Guest each gave powerful performances of our mentees’ writing.
The WriteGirl mentees confidently went up on stage and performed their personal pieces or gave writing advice to the audience, and our WriteGirl alums shared all of the ways WriteGirl has impacted their lives!
