  • Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internships: Students (Getty Foundation) — Full-time work opportunities to 3,200 undergraduates, exposing them to potential careers in the arts. Aiming to encourage greater diversity in the professions related to museums and the visual arts, the program funds internships at cultural organizations across Los Angeles. Deadline: Spring 2019.   • The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute — is looking for motivated individuals to work as part of a small team in a dynamic, professional setting while earning college credit as determined by the student’s university & will be compensated $12/hr. Accepting applications till: February 19th, 2019.

  • KPCC/ Southern California Public Radio: An opportunity for journalism students or recent grads to learn the real-world demands of working in an award-winning public media newsroom. 10-week stint, with an anticipated June start date. The pay is $14.25 an hour. Application deadline: February 22, 2019 (10 p.m. PST).

  • Nicholl Fellowships - Student Academy Awards Intern - Summer 2019 (Academy Gold): This part-time internship will provide exposure to all aspects of the Academy's two international, non- Oscar competitions - the Student Academy Awards and the Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting. The 8-week summer program incorporates learning opportunities including an intensive two-day orientation, weekly panels, exclusive networking events, workshops, screenings, and mentorship opportunities with Academy members. To learn more, visit the Academy Gold page: www.oscars.org/gold

  • Paramount has multiple internship opportunities coming up in the spring and summer. KPCC/ Southern California Public Radio: AirTalk is seeking an apprentice news clerk to assist the show in a wide range of editorial, broadcast and digital production tasks. The apprentice news clerk will help produce FilmWeek, the one-hour weekly AirTalk program devoted to films. This is a six-month temporary, part-time assignment (20 hours per week), with an option to extend up to a year.  Application deadline: February 22, 2019 (10pm PST)

Writing Contests

  • BOOKFOX is a great list of writing contests, year-round.

  • The Tomorrow Prize — If you love writing sci-fi, this contest is for you! Winners will have their work read at LitFest Pasadena in May! Submissions Open: October 1, 2018. Deadline: February 18, 2019.


  • The LARB/USC Publishing Workshop — During this five-week summer program in Los Angeles, Fellows work with the most forward-thinking people in publishing and digital culture, gaining the training and hands-on experience needed to thrive in this competitive field. Open to graduating college seniors and alumni. Applications are considered on a rolling basis until April 30, 2019.
