WriteGirl goes to Washington...Our voices have been heard.

washington-announcement-FINAL.jpg

For twelve years, WriteGirl has empowered thousands of teen girls from Compton to Calabasas to discover and express their creative voices. And what a journey it has been! We’ve inspired millions of words at writing workshops across Los Angeles, guided hundreds of girls to graduate from high school and enroll in college, and impacted countless young lives.

We’ve received numerous awards for our unwavering commitment to teen girls, but we’re proud to announce our most exciting and prestigious recognition to date.

Tomorrow, Friday, WriteGirl will go to the White House to receive the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award, the highest national honor awarded to such programs. Executive Director Keren Taylor and mentee Jacqueline Uy, age 16, will personally accept the award from First Lady Michelle Obama.

Watch the live stream of this momentous ceremony tomorrow Friday, November 22nd at 11:30am PST / 2:30pm EST

This is our pivotal moment – our opportunity to shine on the national stage and raise our profile to garner the resources we need to thrive and sustain WriteGirl well into the future.

We share this honor with every volunteer, special guest, Bold Ink honoree and supporter who has embodied and elevated the WriteGirl mission, but we especially share this with our teen girls. Your voices lift us up every day, and we couldn’t be more proud to see the White House and the nation lifting you up in return.
