PAPERBLANKS BLOG: WriteGirl Goes to Washington!

Endpaper: The Paperblanks Blog

As part of our Global Citizen program, Paperblanks® enjoys the opportunity to partner with some truly inspirational organisations. One such group is WriteGirl, “a community of women writers, [that] promotes creativity and self-expression to empower girls.”

WriteGirl pairs professional women writers with at-risk teen girls in the Los Angeles area for weekly mentoring and also provides workshops, readings and publishing opportunities. In doing so, WriteGirl has maintained a twelve-year record of guiding 100% of the girls in their Core Mentoring Program to not only graduate from high school but enroll in college.

We are thrilled to learn that WriteGirl has recently been recognized by the White House for their work in using engagement in the arts and humanities to increase academic achievement, literacy abilities, communication skills and cultural awareness. On November 22nd WriteGirl was honoured by First Lady Michelle Obama as one of twelve organisations awarded the 2013 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award.

If you’d like to help WriteGirl continue its success in promoting the artistic capabilities and self-esteem of an underserved teenage population, please check out WriteGirl.org for ways you can make an immediate difference in the life of a young girl.
