100 New Volunteers for Season 17

One hundred women writers have stepped forward to volunteer with WriteGirl for our upcoming 17th season of creative writing programs for teen girls. Women writers from poets to bloggers began their WriteGirl journey this month. They spent a full day with WriteGirl leaders, learning about the teenage brain, the WriteGirl feedback model and some of the magic elements that make WriteGirl work. Now in her eighth season with WriteGirl, Curriculum Manager Kirsten Giles made the day challenging and entertaining.

In the words of one new volunteer, “Like the girls this program supports, it’s sometimes hard for even me to find the inspiration to write; I feel more inspired today than anytime since moving to LA.”

We are excited for this surge in new volunteers – hundreds of teen girls across Los Angeles will benefit from working with these new mentors at WriteGirl workshops and mentoring sessions throughout the next year.

We invited one of our girls, Mya, to share her story and meet the new mentors. “I’ve been in WriteGirl for one year, and I am a lot more confident now. I’m not nervous to speak to a group anymore.”

Know a woman writer in LA who might want to volunteer with us? The deadline for new volunteer applications is 10/10/17. One more Volunteer Training is slated for October 14th. To apply: http://www.writegirl.org/become-a-volunteer
