COVID-19 Response from WriteGirl
March 2020
Amid COVID-19 concerns that have prompted a state of emergency in California, WriteGirl has made the difficult decision to suspend all in-person WriteGirl programming, including in-person workshops and mentoring sessions, through the end of June.
Though our in-person programming is on hold, WriteGirl has swiftly mobilized resources to create an online response to support our girls during this challenging time. The WriteGirl team has reimagined its programming to include weekly online workshops with interactive opportunities and guest presenters, monthly workbooks of writing activities and online resources for our Core Mentoring program, online college workshops for our juniors and seniors and continued one-on-one mentoring sessions and support for our 80 mentor-mentee pairs via Skype, Zoom or FaceTime. We are also working to match many more girls with weekly online mentors during this time. Our priority remains keeping our girls connected to WriteGirl’s positive community and resources, with the long-term goal of continuing to guide each girl to college.
As the coronavirus crisis has resulted in unexpected technological expenses for WriteGirl, please consider supporting our new online programming by donating here.
Now, more than ever, our girls need the power of community. WriteGirl remains committed to its high standards in presenting the uplifting, positive and engaging interactive programming that is the hallmark of our organization.
