WriteGirl alum Amanda Gorman has announced WriteGirl as a partner in WRITING CHANGE, a three-year initiative to advance literacy. Led by The Estée Lauder Companies and inspired by Global Changemaker Amanda Gorman, WRITING CHANGE will support organizations that provide equitable access to literacy education, help shape future advocates and activists, and promote innovative approaches to igniting social change through artistic expression in youth.

From Mentee to Mentor: WriteGirl Alum Gives Back

One of Melanie Gonzalez’s most memorable WriteGirl memories was of a journalism workshop she attended as a mentee. It was the first time she had met a journalist, so she spent the workshop “grilling her [mentor] about her job.”

The former WriteGirl mentee now gives back as a WriteGirl mentor while she continues to pursue her passion for writing and journalism.

WriteGirl Alum Honored by African American Women in Cinema

Congratulations to WriteGirl alum Jeanine Daniels, who received the Rising Star Award at the African Women in Cinema's Women of Excellence Salute October 9 at the Morgan Stanley Headquarters in New York City. WriteGirl supporter Kim Purcell introduced Jeanine, whose groundbreaking web series "The Couple" was recently picked up for an HBO pilot deal. Her popular web series "That Guy," is based on her first feature film of the same name, which she then followed with its spin-off series, "Becoming Nia." Jeanine is a founding partner of the Black & Sexy TV media collaborative and is currently working on several new series, including producing and directing a documentary film on musicians whose work she features and develops mixtapes for throughout her creative endeavors.
