Building characters and constructing dialogue was the focus for 82 enthusiastic WriteGirl mentees and 70 dedicated mentors who attended the Character & Dialogue workshop at the Linwood Dunn Theater on Apr. 16. WriteGirl kicks off 15th Season with journalism workshop

WriteGirl kicked off our 15th anniversary season with a record number of 108 girls in attendance at our annual journalism workshop held at Maker City LA on Nov. 14. The girls traveled to writing stations with their mentors where they learned about the essential elements of journalism including how to write in the inverted pyramid style, where the most important information is presented at the top of the story. They dissected newspaper articles to learn how to present the facts – the who, what, where, when, why, and how – and then used their new skills to craft their own stories and headlines.

WriteGirl welcomes a record number of girls to Mentee Welcome Day

WriteGirl welcomed a record number of new and returning girls to the annual Mentee Welcome Day at Impact Hub in Downtown Los Angeles on Oct. 3. In total, 101 teen girls and 52 volunteer mentors set off on this season's WriteGirl journey with boarding passes and passports to a series of travel-themed writing activities created and MC'd by WriteGirl Curriculum Director Kirsten Giles.
